The
Co-ordinator
Jean-Paul Latgé is the
co-ordinator of the project. He
will represent the Consortium and negotiate on its behalf
with the EC. He will be responsible for the implementation
of the workplan in collaboration with the Steering
Committee and will secure a smooth coordination
of the project by following up on decisions. He will
also have overall responsibilities for the quality of
the research project, for the overall contractual and
legal obligations, for overall responsibility for ethical
issues and for the knowledge management. Each work
programme will have a scientific coordinator
who will be a specialist in the corresponding field
and who will ensure the coordination among WP and the
proper realisation of the programme. For each workpackage
in this proposal, one of the partners has been appointed
to take on the primary responsibility for the proper
evaluation of the particular workpackage. Main task
of the Workpackage Leaders will be to coordinate
work by partners active in each workpackage:
-
Neil Gow for
WP1, Chitin synthesis and hydrolysis,
- Mick
Black for WP2, beta-1,3glucan
synthesis and hydrolysis,
-
Frans Klis
for WP3, Identification of beta 1,3 glucan branching and cross
linking enzymes
-
Sabine Strahl
for WP4, Mannosylation and cell wall.

The Steering committee
The Steering Committee will
be the main entity responsible for scientific, technical
and financial issues. More specifically, it will decide
on scientific orientations of the project, and eventual
re-allocation of funds if needs be (e.g., new major
scientific orientations to pursue; lack of progress
of one participant). It will be chaired by the Co-ordinator
(J.P. Latgé)
and will include the leader of each partner teams or
one of her/his representative. The Steering Committee
will have meetings at each annual scientific meetings
to discuss privately the issues mentioned above. Alternative
conference calls will be set up if urgent matters arise.
The Institut Pasteur- EC liaison officer (Mr
Jean-Pierre Broyart) and the project assistant will
participate as non-voting members to all meetings of
the Steering committee. The Steering Committee will
pay attention to establish gateways with other Consortiums
in particular those focusing on medical mycology and
drugs. The Steering Committee will be assisted in its
role by the Scientific Advisory Board.
Scientific
Advisory Board
An external Scientific Committee composed
of key leaders in the field of the fungal cell wall
and antifungal drugs has been created. It is composed of :
- Howard Bussey,
McGill University, Montreal,
Canada, (acting as chair)
- Brendan Cormack,
Johns Hopkins University,
Baltimore, USA
- Tamara Doering,
Washington University, St-Louis,
USA
- Dominique Sanglard,
CHUV Lausanne,
Switzerland
- Yoshikazu Ohya,
Tokyo University, Chiba, Japan

The scientific committee
and the steering committee will work together to monitor
the progress of the project in relation with the proposed
time table, to discuss the ways of solving unforeseen
scientific problems and to provide guidance on scientific
strategic issues for the project. It will meet at the
end of the first and second year of the project. It
will meet at the end of the first and second year of
the project.
